Set Phone Number Formatting
print icon

To ensure data is consistent in the system, you can set phone numbers to have a required format such as (###) ### - ### for 9 digit numbers and 1- (###) ### - ### for 10 digits numbers that start with 1. NOTE: International customers have the ability to enter that phone in a format that makes sense for your country.

Phone number formatting will be applied to phone number fields entered into the Info Hub, back office areas, event registrations, fundraising, and the membership application (version 2 only)

  1. Click Setup in the left-hand navigation panel
  2. Click General Settings in the Miscellaneous section
  3. Click the link under the Phone Number Format String
  4. Choose the desired format from the Phone Number Format list. Options:
    • (555) 555-5555

    • 555.555.5555

    • 555-555-5555

    • Do not format numbers

  5. If desired, leave the checkbox enabled for "Update existing phone numbers to default format."
    • Note: Real Estate and Insurance Editions will not have this option but would require assistance from GrowthZone support to update existing phone number formats.

  6. Click Done.

NOTES:

  • After saving the Phone Number Format, your existing phone numbers will be updated to the selected format. Please allow 15 - 20 minutes for these to be updated to the new format
    • Tip! If you select the wrong format, you can simply select the correct format and save it again. This will apply the desired format to all phone numbers again if the "Update existing phone numbers to default format" is selected.
    • Once format has been selected, the phone numbers cannot be returned back to the "unformatted" condition. All 10 digit phone numbers will always remain in one of the three formatted selections. Select "Do not format phone numbers" will not return numbers to their original formatting. This choice only affects new phone numbers going forward.
  • Once a format has been selected, the phone numbers cannot be returned back to the ‘unformatted’ condition. All 10 digit phone numbers will always remain in one of the 3 formatted selections. e.g. Selecting “Do not format phone numbers” will not return numbers back to their original formatting. This choice only affects new phone numbers going forward.
  • For international phone numbers, you may enter the number in a format that makes sense for that country by entering a + (plus) sign in front of the 10 digit number. +021 427 77575. Or, if the number is not 10 digits, the formatting will remain however you type it. Example: 353 496 5555
  • Extension numbers listed that are pre-pended with alpha characters like X, X, or ext etc. and display after the 10 digit number will not be modified. Only the actual phone number will be updated with the desired formatting. (555) 555-5555 ext 25 will leave the extension showing as ext 35 but will format the 10 digit number as expected.
  • Phone number formatting will be applied to phone number fields entered into the Info Hub, back office areas, event registrations, fundraising, and the membership application (version 2 only)
  • New databases are defaulted to the parenthesis format (555) 555-5555
  • Custom fields that are labeled as Phone number fields will not honor this formatting as there is no specific phone number data type to indicate that the custom field is a phone number.
